    Insultex?

Is this stuff downproof? What is a good synthetic fill if not. I prefer down if possible but it is more cost I think. I am no avid seamstress by far and I know synthetic is easier to work with. I really want to make a top/ underquilt. I wanted to sew some corner and side tabs to attach shock cord to for underquilt use. Any suggestions would be super. I have been checking out the many top/underquilt posts here on HF.

I'm guessing here, but from the structure of the Insultex, I would say it is downproof. There is no weave for the down to leak through.

I'm more than sure it's downproof. There is a thread here that has a very in depth discussion on Insultex.

I just read your review on the insultex and it seems quite warm. I know it is much heavier than ripstop used to make an quilt. should I even worry about using insulation with it or maybe double layer it and thats it.

I think we're going to have to experiment to find out about the Insultex. I how that they use a triple layer of Insultex in their Arctic Armour with a waterproof outer fabric. User's of that gear report using it in the single digits without any special clothing underneath and are warm and comfortable. I plan on using a triple layer for under quilts.
