My first DIY hammock - Camo lovers check this out!!

    Alright! Here's my first attempt at a DIY Hammock. 60” x 120”

    MATERIALS
    -Camo Nylon ripstop from Walmart
-No see um mosquito net from DIY Gear Supply
-Amsteel rope from DIY Gear Supply
    -Camo Nylon webbing from eBay
-Cord locks from DIY Gear Supply
    -Metal rings from Lowes
    -YKK Zipper Coil from eBay

The suspension is basically: nylon straps connected to Amsteel. However the first time I hanged my hammock the knot became over tighten. So I decided to add a figure 9 in the middle of the knot to prevent the straps and Amsteel from over tightening and to also connect my mosquito net to it. Not sure if my explanation made sense, but the picture will.

Let me know what improvements could be done.

PS - sorry if I don't explain myself well. Hopefully the pics will help. (the non blurry pics of course)

Nice job on the set up. I bought some camo fabric at walmart to make a bridge but it was not ripstop it was taslite. Is this what you purchased?

I think it is rated at 2.2oz per sq oz so you should be safe

Nice job. If you are still hanging in it then it is probably OK! ;-))

Thanks guys! I used the knowledge in this forum and from the result of the hammock it seems you guys know your stuff

It was a nice project. Now I need to start on a tarp or should I just buy a Kealty 12x12?

Very nice job, are you using the smaller rings on your suspension line (one inch)? Possibly looks smaller in the photo?

Nice job! A word of warning though. The compression of the rings on the amsteel may be an issue. It will hold you but can derate the strength of the amsteel. Knots in general decrease amsteel's strength hence the reason so many of us splice it (splicing is also fun) Just watch out is all I'm saying.

Nice job! Now that you're in DIY mode, it just makes sense to make a tarp instead of buying one. Post pics when you're done, would love to see it as well.

Thank you for the warning Bubba! I did notice how much compression the rings put on the amsteel and splicing it is on my to do list. However, I like how easy it is to use the rings. So what rope do you guys recommend instead for such rings setup?
