First Hang Done Success aside from tarp!

So I got my first hang done and you can see a full report here. It went extremely well aside from a few problems. My main question is with my tarp setup.

I'm using the XL tarp that you can get through Clark and I'm having a few problems getting it just right. The problems I had last night were with the foot end of the hammock sticking out a bit, the ridgeline being a little off center, and one side of the tarp not being taught flat like it should. I'll put some pictures below, but if anyone has some insight on how to fix it I'm all ears

You just have to loosen up a little bit and not be so up tight

The clack tarp really is not designed to be set up that tight. I rarely tie down the rear of the tarp to the ground. I only use stakes on the front if I do not have a limb, tree, etc to tie to. If it starts storming with bad winds just bivy up in storm mode until its over.

That really does not look bad for your first night out. I think your doing okay with it just needs tweaked a bit. The reason that you tarp looks off center of the hammock maybe because you have tied your tarp lines to the tree differently. Its hard for me to explain but if you wrap the line around one tree clock wise and the other tree counter clock wise the line should be more in line with each other I have to think about this in my head as I type and I maybe wrong which is which but maybe you get an idea of what im talking about. if the tree is two feet in diameter and you tie the line so that both lines are on same side of tree by the time you get out to the tarp you lose that distance.

Oh I don't know how to explain this by typing it out.
I guess all I can say is just play with it more.

As a side note I do stake out all four corners and if it's not bad weather I use my hiking poles as two of the four and then stake out the access of the line from the hiking poles.

Man I am having a time putting words to text today must be the med's for my back pain..

    I quit

You have to have the tarp line running in line with the hammock suspension. It looks like on the foot end you are coming off opposite sides of the tree. This will not allow you to center the tarp with the hammock. You creating a "V" and the center will not meet. Can't really tell from the pic about the head end. If it is coming off the opposite of the suspension also then you are creating an "X" with the tarp/hammock and they still will not line up.

Not sure if I am doing any better than cavediver or just confusing more!

I'm not familar with the clark tarp, but try hanging the tarp straight. Tie it to the tree below the hammock straps (just below). I do that with my tarp with good results.

You'll get it in time. On my first hang I ended up with my butt touching the ground and wearing a hole in the bottom of my hh before I realized what was going on.

For the tarp not flat, that is usually due to the angles you have it attached to the tree or the angles of the guy lines. Try moving the guy line and see if it gets better.

The clark tarp is not straight. The rear part is angled up and runs in line with the suspension rope so it is a little different. The front is probably tied below the suspension and the rear at or above the suspension rope.

hey guys, I think I get what you're trying to say and I've got a picture of it in my mind. but then again, I did happen to see a bear this past weekend that ended up only being a scorched piece of tree. so maybe I'm not getting it
