3 Coat hanger "U" stakes + 1 snow stake which serves as the potty trowel, ground loosener for the U stakes when the ground is hard and as the 4th stake. The "U" stakes weigh about 2 g.

I have used the Golite Y stakes for close to a year now and have never had any problems.

Another vote for groundhogs. They are the best stakes ever to sink into a variety of soil consistencies.

A number of people, including myself, have ordered tri stakes from goinggear.com. They seem nice, but I haven't had a chance to try them yet.

You can read more about it hear: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=8077

And what is the favorite method of pounding in the various stakes?
The harder I work, the luckier I get.

I'm new to all this, but I used a rock on my last trip. Saved me from having to carry a hatchet.

    East Coast=Boot Heel.
Mountain West=Big Rock. When the first one cracks, you pick up the next one.

Yet another vote for the MSR Groundhog. I like to put a Figure 9 on the end of the cord loop on it for super easy tarp adjustments.

I'll second what TAK said, a good push with the bottom of the heel. If for some reason that doesn't work, I just grab a BFR and give it a good whack.

Gotta go with the groundhog. For me, switching to the groundhog was as much an epiphany as switching from a tent to a hammock.
