Quite a ride on a good day - let alone in the middle of winter!
I would have thought, given the type of town Aspen and the area is, that there would be more people interested in winter camping. I've never tried it myself but quite like the idea.
How about Burning Bear - except hiking a mile or so in on the west trail?
How else are you going to test the stuff you got for Christmas?

Hi RT,
So far it's just me and I'd prefer to park on a good well maintained road. My little AWD really sucks on bad roads. Getting stuck last year and worrying all weekend about getting back out really bummed my weekend out.
If I remember right Burnin Bear is on Geneva Rd which is dirt and could turn bad if it gets wet or snowy. I'm just a big woose these days.
I typically do one winter hang @ Kenosha every winter and just though I'd offer an invite to others if they were interested in checking out the area.

I might be up for making it again this year. I assume you plan to park in the parking lot right off the highway across from the campground at Kenosha Pass and pulking up to your spot up there that I scoped out for myself last year. That hillside in your pics looks familiar.
Hi there Big D,
Yes no basecamp in the East campground this year.
That took so much effort I think it was one of the major factors in not moving camp up the hill where the best views and hiking is.
So the plan is to park on the West side free parking on 285.
Then hike the CT to the power lines(1/2mile) then head south to the top of the ridge(1/4mi). Head West on the old fire road to the Bushcraft camp(1/2mi).
You are more than welcome to arrive early and stay at my place.
We could car pool.
I have no idea how much snow(if any) will be up there so pulk, snowshoes, ice cleats, backpack would be worth bringing.
You could deside which method would work best at the TH.
That's my plan.
O&B, ....the only words that come to mind are "WOW!" Like Tim, I wish I were a bit closer. It sounds like a great time in the piney mountains. Your pics are breathtaking, and for those of us east of the Muddy, we can only dream of the high country. Be sure to post lots of pics in your trip report. Hope you have an outstanding hike!
PS...I have a good friend who lives in Cedaredge, near Grand Junction. I hope to visit him one of these days. Maybe we could break some snow....

Hi HomeRun, Glad you liked the photos.
Yep Ohio to the center of Colorado would be a long drive.
Feel free to checkout my flicker account if you like Colorado, Utah outdoor stuff. I store all my trip report photos there.
