Will keep my eyes open.
I'd prefer Valens, more because I could find the site when arriving after dark then bail out options.
(my new taiga works down pants are waiting at the post office to be picked up)
heated bathroom with showers
really close to the campsite
trees made for hanging
and I can find it................

Yup,valens sounds good.Wouldnt want to be at silent lake cryin for my mommy if i didnt have enough insulation.Might actually try to get an overnighter in at valens before christmas to test out my set-up.If i get cold,i'll have enough time to whip up some kind of canvas sock before the EGL hang.I think valens is open for ice fishing every other year so there's a chance of fresh bluegills, crappie or pike in the pan. yummy.
No signs,no fees,no rules, nobody. My kind of campsite.
Unless things have changed recently, Valens Conservation area is closed for the month of December. Best to call and confirm that.
One other thought would be to consider Silent Lake for the back country winter camping trip. For some, ice fishing is an activity that is not available in Algonquin, but is permitted at Silent Lake. Granted Silent Lake isn't exactly back country, but having to walk to your site some distance is enough for some. Ie Just be away from the cars a bit more than a 30 second walk from your hammock. One also has to figure in overall fitness level with back country camping. Having to break trail in fresh snow is taxing even for the fittest of people.
Cheers

Wish I could go but I am already camping with hottwo and his cub pack that weekend in Oshawa. I was planning on bringing my hammock gear to sleep outside with the scouts. Otherwise I would head out for sure.
I'm over my first hurdle. Got my work schedule and I am not working on the 18th. If everything is OK on the home front with the wife and kids I think I can come out for Saturday night if it's at Valens.

Hi all,
For those who are able to make it out, that's great news!! For those who can't make it, that's a drag but hopefully we'll be able to see you at a future hang. Spring canoeing's only a few cold months away! Snowshoeing's even sooner.
If there are any lurkers out there thinking about coming to Valens, please chime in. I'd like to know how many sites we need to reserve.
