no sense being uncomfortable, specially when the cost difference doesn't end up making you miss a meal...

My first DIY slings were made from 3/16 and man are they HUGE, I have since made 2 sets from 7/64. I am 6'2" 320 in a Hennessey Safari. The 7/64 were much easier to attach to HH and have not dropped me yet, the 3/16 barely made it through the holes, I had to use a tool to force them through.
I have a question from the field, is "Whoopie Sling" copyrighted? When I post about my DIY WS I use the term "sling" out of respect for the great people at http://www.whoopieslings.com/.
I'm guessing the name Whoopie Sling is not copyrighted as many makers use it. The name and the design came about before hammockers started using them and Whoopieslings.com came into existance.
To the best of my knowledge, whoopie slings were developed for the logging industry.
If it was me, I'd stick with 7/64. There are a few other accessories that you may want (now or later) that are designed to work with that size line (Dutch's whoopie hooks for example - they're awesome).
I wouldn't be afraid to put 400+ lbs in a hammock with 7/54 whoopies (assuming the hammock would hold up).
