    Asym PIB Hex Tarp

This project has been in the project box for a while now and I finally finished it for a trip this weekend. For the life of me, I cannot remember the dimensions right now but it does weigh in at 17 oz including all the mini-biners, ridge and tie-out lines, and tarp.

I present the Asym PIB (Pain in the Butt) Hex Tarp. I designed this with a side specific for porch mode and the other half designed for optimum side protection. I am hoping the pictures tell the tale but ask any questions you may have.

    Enjoy!

I am loving this design, but in true diy'er form, there will be a slight change to design. I used grosgrain for the first time on all the edges, but due to issues getting the sil to sandwich in there properly, I also rolled the edges first. This made things easy but also adds unneeded weight. The circle patches look cool but were a bit of a pita, won't do that again.

As for the shape and size, I am in love. A cuben version would be sweet.

Very cool! That makes good sense. And it looks like you've got some mad DIY skills!

I like the porch mode section. I made a similar looking DIY tarp with extra material sewn on one side. In my case though it was not designed that way until i realized i didn't purchase enough material

Thank you everyone. Cold/wet weather is what I had in mind for this one. I prefer to plan for the worst and don't mind going a tad overboard. Mountain weather is to finicky for my liking.

With the way that I worked the angles, it really doesn't gain much weight due to the wide side. And the coverage there is really nice. If I made this without the grosgrain edging, it would pitch a bit better as well. Got to be honest, the edging looks nice but I am not digging it in the design/functionality process. Just seems like an unnecessary add. Next time I will use lighter reinforcement patches as well.

I have 3 or for different design floating around in my head still that I know I will have to try out before being happy though.

Thank you! I have recently gotten the diy bug again. This has the juices flowing and may require a large order from some of our local diy material suppliers. I have Christmas break for school coming up and the wife and kids will be out of town a lot with the holidays.
