I replaced the stock shock cord on my claytor and have been glad I did. Took some from old tent poles I had and made the shock cord portion much longer resulting in more give. I think this took some strain off the netting and if I would go to the ground, there would not be too much stress on the netting. Your experience makes me glad for that mod.

I'll be using some "canary cord", something that will break before the netting or the hammock. I also use ring buckles and its just a matter of time before I forget the slipped half hitch.
I also think i'll have a close look at that weak point to see if I need to run another line of stitches.

Well I paid for my new hammock on Saturday but have yet to receive any email from Tom- and I have a trip in 3 weeks.

Not sure if he's on a trip but I may have to cancel my order if I don't hear from him soon and come up with a back up plan.

hmmm... might be time to consider a blackbird.
I love my claytor, but I will be getting my "warbonnet on" in the future.

So last night I cancelled my Claytor order, having not heard from Tom for a couple of days. Having dealt with him before I knew he must be on a trip but I was getting a little desperate with my upcoming trip.

Sure enough in the morning I get several emails from Tom- he was on a trip to Indonesia.I was going to buy another hammock but I have decided to still get a Claytor JH now that Tom is back.

This makes me extremely happy because I really loved my claytor. I have 2 or3 possessions that are really prized to me and that is one of them. The other is my motorcycle which is in the repair shop after a bad accident

I am really impressed that Tom got back to me as soon as he got back- try getting that service with some multinational. The reality is that I have responsibility for what happened in so far as I modified the strap system into a ring buckle setup, I didn't tie a half hitch, I also had a very large quilt in the hammock which added to pressure on the net along with the net tie-out which pulled the net up as the hammock slid down. Add to that my 215lb which gravitated to the center as the hammock slid down and I think it is understandable that the seam failed.

I do however think that another row of stitches along that seam would be great because if even one stitch fails the whole hammock will fail.

In any case thanks for getting back to me Tom and I can't wait for my new hammock to arrive!

    Claytor ring/buckle users

Has anyone tried tying the netting cord to the rings? I just tried doing this and it seems like a good fix to save the hammock if the webbing was to slip. I use a structural ridge line so with the netting tied to the rings I do not have to fiddle with it anymore, just unclip the biners and roll it all up.
