Just got in for my claytor jh for the night. I didnt secure the ring buckle with a halfhitch and the hammock slid to the ground basically ripping itself in two. Completely busted.
I am very annoyed right now

Ouch
How did it rip itself in two when it just slid to ground? Did it catch on to something?
And is the rip along the ridge or on the side? Maybe it would hold if repaired..
i have never had any problems with my claytor jungle, how many time have you used it.how much do you wieghneo
the matrix has you
bummer...glad you didn't get hurt.
Give some additional details..your weight, did the hammock get caught on anything, what was under you when you fell?...etc
I have forgotten to back up my rings on EVERY hammock I've owned (including my claytor JH) and hit the ground. Mostly when I'm hurrying. Never once did any of them rip...

I'm just about to do the ring mod on my DD travel...
Your accident probably tells me to NEVER forget to secure with a half hitch or two...
Sorry for you loss with the torn hammock, your accident wasnt a total waste though, I think this is a good warning to others like myself, when tightening up the ringbuckle make sure to secure it with at least one half hitch, or your hammock will end up like Cshama's hammock, torn in two..
Don't write it off yet. May be repairable. I did a repair on a hole in the bottom of my old hh with sil from a very old tent and seam seal. Worked great and still going to who I sold it to.
Post some pics and we can see what we can come up with.
Some people get by without the half hitch. I can't. I think it comes down to your weight, knots on the rings, and luck.

How old is it? I would contact Claytor and see if you can get a replacement.

I already sent a paypal to Claytor for a new one because I figured it was my fault for not tying the half hitch.
I am 215lb so I am no lightweight.
Basically I got in the hammock and it started sliding to the ground. It started ripping along the fly zipper as the hammock slid down to the ground. After it ripped just a little it quickly started ripping even faster untill it was just shreds basically. There was no tear in the hammock before I got in as far as I know. Probably just a weak seam. It was about 3 months old and used maybe 10 nights.
Sounds bad, but you never know.
