It is the decision to pulk or carry pack.
Switch to MSR Whisperlite but still bring my Fancee Feest for coffee from the hammock to warm the soul and bones before egress from the downy warmth.
More clothing. Snowshoes. Shovel. White Gas for melting snow for water. Switch to Camelback hard bottles for water. Bit more food. More sleeping insulation.
    It is a Minnesota Winter.

This is about where I am this year. White gas, snowshoes, and insulation. Other than that, I am just about the same.

Thanks for all the input guys.
I'm beginning to think I'm a paranoid woose when it comes to full on winter hanging. I'm carrying too much "Just in case crap"

I'm currently trying to consolidate and remove items that are redundant.
In hopes things will be a easier to find when needed.

I've got the hammock and quilts consolidated into one bag. I hope to get some picts up of the cookkit/snow melting gear sometime today.

I still have quite a bit of work ahead of me. Using my Golite 72L backpack
it is still packed to the brim and that is just too much stuff.

Thanks again for all the ideas and suggestions if you can think of any more please post.

EDIT: Just for the heck of it I weighed the pack sans food and water it came in a 28# I guess its just more bulk than weight.

If possible I prefer melting and leaving the filter at home.
Sorry to drift for a second, but I have a solution here... I cut the top off of a coke bottle so that the cap could be epoxied opposite the threads, making a screw in plug for the Sawyer. With that on the dirty side, and the provided cap on the clean side leaking is not an issue. I then attached a zip tie to the body of the Mini with a loop for hanging around my neck.

Winter Hanging- Organizing all the extra gear???

The one of the biggest things that will help you is to just get it there. Only by experience are you truly going to find out what works for you. Last year I got down to -3* with 2 Phoenix's a 20* and a 0*. With the 20* reversed so that the thinner end covered the thinner end of the 0* so that it functioned more like a incubator. I was comfortable easily. So best advice that I can give you is stick close to a safe location and give it a go. That is the only way for you to learn what works for you.

Canvas stuff sacks and bags are easier to work with in very cold weather when you are wearing gloves or mitts. I wish that someone would offer a waxed canvas oversized Bishop bag for sale. It is difficult to stuff a tarp or hammock in cold weather into a sil bag.
