    I converted my hiking buddies!

Or I should say my snoring did. I did a quick overnighter on a local peak up to a "hermit hut" cabin that was built about 20 years ago. My two hiking buddies slept in the shelter on hard boards. I set up my hammock just a few feet away.

Listening to my snoring all night converted one of my buddies. The other got converted when he woke up aching and sore.

Breakfast conversation was all about hammocks and what kind of setup they should look into.

So we have added two more to our growing ranks!

Here's a pic from our lookout:

Nice pic... Hammocks have a way of converting people that wake up sore or don't sleep well. ;-)

Thanks for the compliments on the photo. I took it with my cell phone!

When I uploaded the image to my Google account so I could post it on this site it automatically adjusted the image contrast. The original is darker and has less detail. The end result was pretty stunning. It almost has an oil painting quality to it.

That would look nice in frame except my wife doesn't like me smoking cigars.

I guy I go hiking with is real tall and a light tent never really fits him so eventually he switched over and since then another buddy has switched. It just makes sense, sleeping on the ground is horrible on your back.

When I first experimented with hammock camping, picture a grand trunk ultralight a sleeping bag and a thermarest, all my camping buddies thought I was nuts. That was 4 years ago, this past summer we had a heck of a time finding campsites that had enough trees for all of us. Funny how quickly they turn when I am sleeping trhough storms and people moving around in the mornings.

    Great pic.
My buddies have started to groan every time they hear me say, "hey, you gotta try this." They know it's gonna cost them time and money.
A few years ago it was Kayak fishing, this year hammock camping and lightweight hiking. New converts are often the most enthusiastic and the excitement contagious.
