Prices for down and underquilts question

So, I've been looking around at DIY vs. buying an underquilt, and the only down price I've found is here:
    http://thru-hiker.com/materials/insulation.php
at about $10/ounce which seems reasonable.

    But then here:
    http://www.enlightenedequipment.com/...=revelationx-0
a top quilt (with connections to convert to underquilt) with 25oz of fill (I need the long wide one) is currently $250, plus shipping, etc.

So the math works out like this for DIY:
    Down, 25oz $250
Shell, Nylon $30 (plus a few hours of cutting & sewing)
    Rigging etc. $25
    Total $305

    What am I missing?

Prices for down and underquilts question

Pride. There is a lot to the fact that someone can said "I made this." There is a certain satisfaction to being able to say that. I know I feel that when someone asks.

Great price, plus he packages it in small packets for you--soooo much easier to stuff down that way!
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

Agreed, the satifaction and feeling of pride when showing off your own work is AWESOME, Anybody can throw money into something (anyone with money that is!)and show it off but knowing that what your are showing is yours and that you did that is priceless, besides you can harvest down for pennies on the dollar and feel good about what you have made and how much you have saved..,,,..

Of course, this is just my opinion

Oh, I agree, I much prefer to make my own - that way it's just the way I wanted it. But if I can get someone else to do it cheaper and faster... it becomes a more difficult decision.

Obviously I was missing some information. Cheers!

I couldn't agree more. I love the things I've made because they always are just a little different than what I can buy because I changed it some way that suits me better.

Having said that, I haven't ventured into down-filled gear yet - that's a little out of my league at this time. So I understand how people who are in business making this stuff stay in business (and I want them to).
