1st trip - think I'm hooked on hanging

Just tried hammocking 1st time and it was great! 24 mile loop trail in southern Indiana and on the 2nd night we used a shelter due to a lot of rain and hung the hammock inside and it was sooooo nice not to sleep on that hard floor

One question - I happened on an older style Northface down bag at a rummage this summer for cheap. Anyone know any DIY'ers or vendors that would convert it to an underquilt for a fee? I don't have access to a sewing machine or the inclination and thought it might be a relatively inexpensive option.

Why not buy or DYI an underquilt and convert the down Northface to an overquilt?

I have a Marmot down bag I am using as an overquilt. That is a good idea though. If I go full bore hammocking, I might eventually see about converting that. It works pretty good as is but probably would save some weight maybe. Thanks for the idea. This forum is great - Thanks all who contribute!!! Have gotten so many great ideas already from my cheap Tyvek tarp to suspension and more.

welcome to the world above the cold hard ground. it's amazing how much better the sleep is when there are no roots poking you in the ribs. oh and pics, or it didn't happen!

second thing, i am responding to your question about the bag conversion. while i do not have the desire to have little fluffy feathers flying all over my house for the next 10 years, i am sure there would be someone who would be interested if you made a new thread concerning that. this is the only way i can help on that venture. my seewing skills aren't as good as most.

Welcome to the trees from Mass. A bag to T Q conversion is relatively easy. PM me if you have questions or want me to take a stab at it.

    10-4 on the Marmot bag.

You have some pretty woods there in Indiana. Drove through there once and thought it would be nice hiking/camping/hunting.

Our hike was on the 1st day of shotgun season so there was plenty of hunting going on LOL. Saw a light shine on my tarp an hour before daylight and after we got going, saw a hunter in his stand fast asleep

There are a few nice areas down close to the Ohio river with about 300 ft. elevation gains but nothing like northern AL. I spent a LOT of time down there years ago exploring the caves North and East of Huntsville. God's country for sure and Skynyrd had it right!
