State campgrounds are usually geared to the least knowledgeable campers out there. I was looking at a hammock site the other day where the hanging hardware supplied was eye screws and metal chanis to use on the trees. Can you imagine the damage that would be done if the unknowledgeable car camper decided to do this "new thing" and started screwing plated eye bolts in to the trees willy nilly?

I didn't camp much when I lived in CT and it was ages ago anyway so I can't speak to what is around there now. But the forests are often governed under a totally different set of rules and guidelines. Don't give up on it yet.
