    Poncho/UQ protector questions

I have a SeatoSummit sylnylon poncho and I am trying to figure a good way to use it as a UQ protector. has anybody done this successfully?

It seems that sil is not recommended for quilt protects since it doesn't breath trapping the moisture I'm the quilt.

2qzq makes underquilt 2 protectors, one is out of syl. But they do caution that condensation could be an issue and recommend a breathable one of you don't know how to deal with it. That said, there have been people one here who have used non breathable ponchos as uq protectors. You will just have to experiment with it. My guess would be to leave the ends a touch loose so that you have a small gap.

Here is a thread that shows a poncho conversion:

I went with the Ripstop Breathable option myself. IMOP the purpose of the underquilt protector is to keep the quilt from getting dirty and ripped up. The extra protection from wind and cold is a bonus

Any added protection helps. If the wind or rain are bad, rig up the poncho, it will help.
Ponchos are good as uq protectors or over the hammock.

You will get condensation in/on the uq using a poncho. I use a poncho but with pads which are a vapor barrier to begin with. The poncho is a significant wind block and provides heat retention especially when a garbage bag with an emergency blanket is added to the mix. Google garlington insulator. I think Cascade Designs used Ray's idea when they came up with the xtherm pad.
