Weight: Standard Cuben vs Camo Cuben

    Hey y'all.

I sent an email the other day but haven't received a reply yet (totally understandable given the time of year and the black Friday sale), but I wanted to get an idea ASAP because a tarp is already on order and I want to make sure to get word to the HG team before they get to my order if the answer to the following question changes my mind:

Is the camo cuben a different weight than the standard cuben? If so, what's the difference?

Hopefully some of you guys that are way more in-the-know regarding this stuff can help me out.

    Thanks!

I remember reading that the .51 cuben was estimated to come out to about .61 with the camo dye. I was not able to find verification of the actual weight of these camo tarps.

I have placed my order for the cuben standard. But like you, I am looking for more details about this tarp from people who already have theirs.

Some research yielded the following (from this thread):

But that was regarding the first batch of digital camo. Later in the thread, I found this:

Also, they also mentioned that they WILL be able to make it in our usual .51 material. I was glad to hear this as we have had great results with this thickness. We love the weight of it too!
I hope that also applies to the newer camo. That new stuff (not the digital camo) is pretty sexy stuff. If it's also .51, I'm ALL over it, haha.

Heard back from Adam today. Here's the verdict:

The camo pattern comes in at around 0.63 oz per square yard as opposed to our standard fabric that is @.51oz per square yard...*It will make a standard tarp with doors weight a little less than 2 ounces heavier...Even though I am card carrying gram weenie, I think it is worth it!
So there you have it! And I agree, I think that's a worthy investment of <2oz.

I can finally add to this thread now that my Camo cuben tarp has arrived.

The weight by itself is just under 9 ounces or 255 grams on my scale.
The stuffsack weighs in at 7 grams. Also, this stuffsack is easily twice the size of the one that came with the HG cuben hex tarp. The hex tarp was always a tight fit, but manageable. I don't think I will need to be as meticulous about rolling the camo tarp, in order to fit into it's more generous stuffsack. I completely agree with Kyle that the camo is a worthy investment at >2 oz compared to non-camo cuben.

This is just my initial report on the weight. I hope to have more to share after some trail use with this tarp.

Yep, mine clocks in at 238g or 8.4oz. And I get 6 grams for the sack and 26 grams for matching sleeves. The tarp, rigged and in the sleeves, fits snug, but comfortably in the sack.

This stuff is of the absolute highest quality. Can't wait to get it on the trail.
