Can the Singer 503A do 2 stitch lines too? I see it has to two spool holders.

Yes, the 403A and 503A are essentially the same machine in two different housings.

You can even use two needles instead of a twin needle...see page 37.

Just remember this is a decorative stitch, not one to use to join two pieces of fabric where the seam will be stressed.

BUT... you still only have one bobbin thread so it is pretty much only decorative. Not the same as two stitch lines. But with two different color top threads it can be a very unique look.

Got it. Can't use it to do two rows of stitching at ridgelines, etc., but I can bar tack like all get out right?

Finally got the manual for the Singer 503, says it can do 2 stitch lines by threading both threads through the same tensioner and thread guides. You can also put two normal needles side by side instead of using that double needle.

Make sure that they are both the same length if using different needles
