I agree on the postage stamp-like tarp. But an 8' SRL on a hammock is 96". About what some use. It would fit, but barely and only for very experienced or for fair weather only.

Of course, buying 2 of them is $20 and sewn together(easy enough for single edge) gives you 10x7. Acceptable.

I like the price of that hennessy hex for < $80 that Shug linked. Very good coverage for small price.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Now the question is: Tadpole, Egret, or Hennessy Hex?

Looking at different hex tarps vs asym and diamond. Won't need much weather protection because it will mostly be good weather, just need something to keep me dry. Any recommendations or reviews would be helpful. Thanks in advance
For my 1st stab at hammocking (very big newbie here), I found some good threads on this site for a tarp made of tyvek and decided to try it.

a 9 x 9 with the side corners cut off gave a nice hex shape and good coverage. Have only been out a couple of times but it has worked good so far. Around $30 and only needed a pair of scissors. I did not even mess with tie-outs. Just bunched the fabric around small rocks and tied cord around it instead. HTH....

Allot of folks have been happy with the tadpole.

If you want to save some money go with the Egret. But if you are looking to save weight and gain better coverage, then go with the Tadpole. The Hex Fly is nice, but at 24 oz it would make a gram weenie cringe. Right now your still a kid, but as you get older, pack weight becomes a consideration.

I suggest go with the Tadpole, you can get a door kit and/or pole kit and it can be a 4 season tarp if you need.

Leaning towards Tadpole for weight reasons. Most likely will not need doors as Texas only has about 3 seasons maybe.

We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..
