There are people born with indeterminate gender, or they are transitioning from one gender to another. Just because they're in the minority doesn't mean they shouldn't factor into the discussion.

I feel we may also be slighting the Metrosexual as well facetious or not!

Next thing ya know we'll have optional identification of whether we don't fall into the male/female category at all. Will there be a pull-down menu for pre/post-operative transsexuals? Are you a biological male becoming a female, or are you going the Chaz Bono route? Will there be an option for hermaphrodites?

Intersexuality, according to Wikipedia, "is a variation in sex characteristics including chromosomes, gonads, or genitals that do not allow an individual to be distinctly identified as male or female." Should we provide an option for them too?
Glad I wasn't drinking. Work would have docked my pay for the ruined keyboard.

Back to the OP ... most of the data around here, IMOO, relates to height and weight. I work with some Amazon women and petite ... err ... small wiry guys. Physical description is more relevant than sexual make up.

A metrosexual is indeterminate in sexual orientation - their gender is pretty darn clear.

My mind boggles at all the things I could add to that list of info on the left below my HF handle.

    Gender
    Age
    Race
    Marital Status
    Annual Income
    Education Level
    Sexual Orientation
    Religion
    Served in Armed Forces

It becomes something like match.com once you go down that path. What am I going to do with gender information or any other personal information in the context of a forum about hammocks?

By participating in the forum, I can learn all the information listed above about any individual if I actually read what they post. They reveal to us what they wish to share without doing it in a formulaic checklist.

    It's a lot more organic.

I hate it when someone assumes I wear wooden shoes or don't pay for my dates dinner.

Okay, at this point I think the thread has begun to move off topic from the original subject. As entertaining as it has been I think it's time to close it down
