You should consider making an 11' x 60" gathered end hammock.

or checkout a Wilderness Logic Snipe.

I am 5'9" and can get very comfortable in my 9' ENO double.
Your feet have to be hanging off the side
I have done fine so far, time will tell with the ENO Double. WB lists the BB as good till 6'8"... which is one reason I tagged it as a future option... with hindsight and some better planning I could have just picked that one up for a stitch more than my cost for the Double, Atlas Straps and making my own ridge line etc (when you add in the bug net)

Just to jump in on the subtopic of height/length:
I'm also 6'5" and I am comfortable in the WBBB and the Thunderbird, both 10'.
Disclaimer: I have never been in an 11' hammock, so I don't know how much better it could be.

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions,

as it stands my plan will be more as less as follows:

    1. Underquilt -- 20 deg Full Length/long -- (I'm trying to avoid pads in the long run simply because it feels better) in the short run I'll use them since I have em
    2. address the bug issue later either a bug net that can be paired with the ENO or something integral
    3. Top Quilt -- 20 deg needs to be long...
    4. Winter Tarp of some sort

I'll be trolling the For Sale Section for some deals, and try to do so while cutting weight out of my pack. I'm down to about 20lbs now as a base and would like to see 17-18 (not including water/food/fuel)

I may even try my hand at making a thing or two...

Odds are this will happen over the course of 1 year and should match my seasonal needs. Unless I am with my family or the Cubs, I try and use my backpacking setup so it will get a significant amount of use

I agree, i am 6ft3 and have had underquilts.com custom make my uq and the workmanship is top notch, you can also pick up a nice winter tarp there as well... the winter tarp i got from him came with doors and is the nicest tarp i have ever seen, beautiful work, great attention to detail

I had just your setup and sewed a down underquilt for colder temps. Testing it tonight w 14 degrees in the forecast. I find the pad good to about 40 degrees, then I want down.

I've seen 2 20° uq's so far in the FS Section, but I am still thinking the long will be better.

All right, I'm bringing this back to reach out to the vast "wisdom" of the interwebs...

I'm working on my next gear selection...
    • ULA Pack (Ohm, or Circuit) - saves tons of wt, and should fit better
    • 20 Deg Top Quilt - Cozy and would replace my Grand Trunk bag
    • WB XLC or a Dutch Argon Hammock - Replaces the ENO -- Might require a new tarp though. so I may wait...

No bad choices that I can see... I'll be watching the FS section to help make the choice...

    thoughts?

I'm also trying to pick up an BlackFly Canoe... or a Go Pro... but that is another story.

    Hi Phillip,
Looks like you are getting this hammock stuff figured out. I hope you will post some progress picture as you build your kit.
    On your pack choice.
If are planning to carry a 20 deg Full Length/long Underquilt and a 20 deg Tall TQ I would investigate how much pack volume that will take up.
Considering the 20 deg quilts there will also be extra clothing to support those temps.

I have a 20F quilt set std lengths and can barely get everything for a fall/ early winter hang in a 55L pack. The Ohm is only 34.4L / 2100ci.

    My 55L pack

ULA packs are wonderful and Chris gives great service. Many miles logged on mine.
Yes on the 20º TQ...very versatile.
I just got an XLC and so far am loving it. Spent a very comfortable night in it......
