    DIY tq

Just finished my tq last night. 1.1oz rip stop shells, finished dimensions are 50 inches at the top and 38 at the bottom. I made it with a straight taper and 1.5 inch baffle material from Dutch. Very awesome to not have to cut that stuff! I used 6oz of activ-dri down from thru-hiker. It should hold me to around 40 degrees, maybe a bit colder. I did a snap foot box so I could use it as a blanket at home. I am thinking of including some way of attaching it to my hammock for use as an UQ as well. I haven't weighed it yet. Hoping for under 14oz, but I'm not a gram weenie, so whatever. I gotta thank all the wonderful people who share their ideas (and mistakes!) here on the forum. Without all of you I could never have made this. Special thanks to Paul at UGQ, he helped me find the green rip stop I was looking for! I'm working on a tarp now!

Well done. I'm starting on one this weekend. I'm gonna try using APEX and see how small I can pack it before I start playing with the feathers.

That is beautiful. I really like the color combo. Great job. How did you do the snap foot box? Is there a special tool to do the snaps?

Thanks for compliments! Green is my favorite color, but I definitely wanted some contrast. I can't wait to sleep with it! Too bad its so cold here and this is a summer quilt!

There is. I got the snaps and pliers from here...http://www.kamsnaps.com/. They work really well and seem to be pretty durable. Time will tell. I just installed a few at 6 inch intervals starting at the very bottom. I put a snap on the head end as well so I could cinch it up if I get some drafts or get chilly. I'm wondering if these snaps could be used to attach a suspension to hang it as an UQ. There is a snap on all four corners so I'm going to try and see what happens....
