I have some questions about your 1.1 ripstop -- I am planning my DIY TQ and UQ, and am trying to make fabric decisions:

    - As far as feel, is the ripstop good? Some threads have suggested that the ripstop is kinda clammy, but softer fabrics like M50 and M90 are probably a little out of my budget

    - Where did you get your ripstop from? I have ordered sil from Noah Lamport (cheapest around AFAIK -- $3/yd for seconds); does he do the calendared ripstop as well?

    - Also, some threads talk about ripstop with DWR -- did you use that for this project or know of its pros and cons?

Thanks for helping out an aspiring DIYer and congrats on the quilt!
I haven't used it except on the couch for an hour or so, but I find the feel of rip stop to be soft and pretty pleasant. I'm sure argon or M50 are softer but also more expensive. I have not found it to be clammy, but I haven't slept in it yet. Both black and green have DWR if I remember correctly. I got the green from Paul at UGQ after seeing the color in one of his quilts at the MI fall hang. I got the black from Scott at DIY gear supply. I can't speak about Noah, I have never ordered from him. I think I like the idea of using DWR just for the added protection for my down. With that and the activ-dri down I should be pretty well protected from moisture issues. I guess the cons of DWR would be a slight loss of breathability but not sure how much. I'm pretty sure most of the big manufacturers are using DWR on their down bags. I know my high end 20 degree bag does.

super job! looks totally pro. i have a snap foot box on my tq for the same reason and i really like it. also allows me to have a little bit more quilt bunched up at the foot/lower leg where the 3/4 uq doesn't cover.
There is no try, only do.

Excellent job and nice color combo.
    Q. is that green BIAS tape you have running around the edge?

Thanks! No it is not BIAS tape, I cut the inner shell 1.75 inches larger in all directions and folded it over twice to get that color contrast with the hem. Next time I may just cut both the same size and just hem it. It was kinda of a pita to cut two different shell sizes when I could have just stacked the fabric, pinned em together and cut them both at the same time. I guess it saves some weight, but I'm sure a negligible amount.

So I figured out how to hang this quilt as a supplement to my diy 3/4 30 degree UQ. I used a strip of grosgrain ribbon and made a loop using a snap. One of these at each corner larksheads onto my UQ suspension. The TQ is then hung inside my UQ. I loosen my UQ suspension a little to avoid compressing the TQ. It provides coverage for my feet and hopefully will add a few degrees to my setup. Hoping to test tomorrow night if the wife "allows" it. Lol. Its supposed to be cold, a low of 14!

Adjustability is wonderful. Now you need another TQ for when you supplement your UQ.

Did you get out last night or what? What's the scoop on the thermal qualities of your new TQ?
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
