Well, here is a brief review of my first evening out with my new incubator. Spoiler alert: it was fantastic.
My set up:
- Clark North American hammock with whoopee slings and carabiners.
- 0 degree incubator with 1oz of overfill
- Mountain Hardwear Lamina -15 (synthetic mummy bag) as a top-quilt
- Pillow from my bed!
- iPad to watch Shug videos from zee hammock (wifi reaches the front yard)
So I got home from an outing at around 9pm and received a text from CountryRoads asking if I was testing out the incubator. I had been planning on it, but as the night wore on I thought I'd skip it and wait for the weekend. I watched a few youtube vids about my new UQ and suddenly was racing outside to set up for the evening.
Set up was simple, I had a little bit of practice from when the package first arrived (I RAN outside to try it out), but all in all probably 10-15 minutes of adjustments. I work clumsily and slowly, and it was night time, so I imagine this would be a lot faster in daylight for an old pro. The quilt has a simple hook that attaches above the gathered end to your suspension (amsteel fits nicely) and two places for adjustment on each end. I think it'll take me about 60 seconds to set up now that I've made it through a night.
Sleeping was incredible. I slept a solid eight hours without waking up... yet opened my eyes this morning to discover the ground covered in frost... even a little had crept onto the outside of my hammock itself. Despite a chilly evening, none of the cold got to me.
The quilt is incredibly light; surprisingly so. It's completely cocoons me (I'm 5'11'') with a little room to spare on each end, yet the thing must weigh hardly one pound. It's fluffy and cozy, and is definitely my favorite piece of gear.
My quilt also arrived very quickly, which is much appreciated! Definitely two GIANT thumbs up for my first underquilt - I'd recommend one to any hammocker!
