    Scooter and Hammock must travel!

Hi all. As a bit of an adventure nut I thought I'd toss over an idea with you all. I just recently bought a SYM VS125 scooter as a cheap and easy-to-park commuter ride. But it has been only a matter of days when I got to thinking that my love of hammock camping and the cheap-to-run scooter must be able to forge a partnership somehow.

So I'm planning a trial trip to a nearby national park to test the idea. I'm planning to pack fairly light but with the ability to strap multiple bags on the pillion seat and rear parcel rack I reckon I can carry enough gear for a fairly comfortable trip, without too much weight to make the trip a slow slog. I don't plan to tackle any big climbs so traveling speed shouldn't be a major issue.

Has anyone done any hammock-scooter camping? (should I call that 'scammock camping'?) I would appreciate anyone's input and suggestions.

I don't know anyone who does, but that's not to say no one else does. It sounds like an awesome idea. If I lived in AUS I would buy a scooter just to go on an adventure like that. Enjoy it and good luck on a partner.

There are a number of us who moto hang...don't know if there are hanging scooter trash (a term of endearment BTW) here. I'd say ultra light and space is going to be the key so down etc. How far and what type of terrain do you plan to scoot to? We will need pics/vids.

I have a Vespa 150 that i have taken camping. I just throw on my small hiking pack and hit the road. it is so much more fun than driving my truck to get there. my only issue is that i like to be close to the scoot when I am camping. it would be too easy for someone to just put it in their truck and drive away with it if I left it at a trail head. I say go for it! you will have a blast! Just my 2 cents.....

<----oh, there might be some scooter trash lurking about
I had the same idea with scooting the Blue Ridge Parkway here in the States. Ranger politely informed me no scooters are allowed on the BRP. So sad ...

There could be a few me thinks.

The more hiking I do the less I scoot, but a rolloff is a Rolloff anyway you want to do it

Honda Ruckus is the best I've seen for Scamping, with the Vespa coming in second. The Vespa has options for both front and back racks. You can have a tough time finding that on anything other than the Vespa or Ruck.

The Ruckus allow for quite a bit more customization. I've seen both hunting and fishing set ups, and they were both outstanding and solid. The Ruckus also rides a little bit tighter, frame and wheels wider and more aggressive, thus it off roads better.

Well, I have what I have. I didn't buy it with touring first in my mind, but I think it will manage quite ok in that role all the same. A 125 of any make is never going to be a workhorse :-)
