That's where I did my 2nd ever winter hang, just above Poochie's Falls. By my count, you could likely get about 20 hangers there.
And, if you want to practice, I got 5 spots in my yard & am off all weekend in 2 weeks. I PM'd you my cell phone number.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

Yes! rock bridge is pretty spectacular. Definitely one of the under sold attractions of RRG.

Hanson's Point is awesome. Was out there during a snow squall & it was pretty cool. But, prolly not the best winter site because of wind exposure.

For a group camp and novice winter camp there are primitive sites along the road (would be close to the truck if needed) and you could do some very nice day hikes (Auxier Ridge, Courthouse Rock, Grays Arch, Hanson's Point, etc.).

I'm still interested in doing this, but I still need someone else to take on the planning: dates, site selection, what have you. I'm building up my winter kit and testing more gear this weekend, but I'm still a novice in nearly every way.

I am game for a trip before warm weather gets here. I would really like to meet some other backpackers in the Tri-State area to be able to go backpacking with.

I've been to the Gorge a few times. But, not enough to plan out a campsite destination. I'm a bit more casual and just pick a route and find a spot along the way within the Gorge requirements. And, it's not about miles for me. I tend to spend a lot of time enjoying area, exploring and snapping photos.

I'm still learning (but who isn't) but experienced enough to be able to take care of myself. However, I'm not really up for "hosting"/"leading" a group. If someone else wants take on that role, I'll tag along. Otherwise, if one or two others want to meet we can work out a route and possible dates together for a laid back trip.

I would prolly only be able to do 1 or 2 nights. I good with camping at one of the primitive areas on Tunnel Ridge Rd. or along the trail.

If interested post here or send me a PM.

*My limit is lows in the 20 degree range. And, not much interest in 35 and rain!

Rough trail has some great places that would be sheltered or Wildcat trail. (Although Wildcat can get slick in the winter). Went out on Sat and it was a nice mix of mud and ice. I am always a fan of Grey' Arch as well.

I'm planning on heading there on my way home after the MRHO (Sunday PM to Monday noonish) but am not going far in.

Let me think about it, I may be able to help you sort out the logistics of a winter group hang.
+1 be safe!! If I had time I would love to help out

That's my take as well. My pace is usually not too fast. However, I might be more inclined to keep moving to stay warm if the weather is adverse.

I'm actually headed down this weekend, 2/7-9. My intent is to leave after work on Friday and park near Martin's Fork. I'll setup camp near the car since it'll be kinda dark by the time I will arrive. Then Saturday, I'll get up and hike the loop around Gray's Arch, then the Rough Trail. That night, I'll just camp along the way where I can find. Sunday, turn around and hike back along Koomer Ridge trail and Buck Trail back to the car.

Still waiting for the forecast to solidify, but here's what Google is showing for Slade, KY:

That gives me a little hope it'll be somewhat "dry" for the weekend, but maybe some percip on the way back to the car.

We don't get a lot of free weekends, so my inclination is to "go for it".

If anyone would like to join us, you are welcome.
