With a little practice you will have no issues getting that key engaged.

There are so many ways to get one pressurized for lighting.
It's kind of fun youtube searching for videos on it.
Just use a little common sense. Not all of them are safe.

    thanks again

    and with out further ado

a couple of things, on is that the over cover helps with some temp enviorment, but it really does hold the condensation, alot more then i thought as it got colder, another is this, i did get a lil bit chilled in both the feet and shoulders/back by the time i woke up, now i am thinking its because i had on too much clothing still...the base layers are good but i think that the fleece top held too much of my heat so that my uq didnt work as well .. this happened before but i thought with a low in the lower 20's that i better have it on/?? any thoughts experience with this?
    gear:
thunderbird dl, 1.9+1.3(?) leighlo 15* uq with 2qzq uqp and A EE TQ. used overcover with small venting at the top
clothes base layer wool socks thin lounge pants fleece (polyester) top balaclava

    Hi MtnHanger,
Good report, congrats on your 22F hang.
Something I found with UQ's in cold weather is they tend to lose some of their holding power, the elastic relaxes a little, and you can get small opening at the shoulders and foot ends. Try tightening up your main suspension a little when it gets below 25F.
Also, if you have shockcord on the ends of your UQ don't over tighten them. For your shoulders you need almost no extra gathering.
And on any extra wide hammock that allows an extreme diagonal lay you don't want much foot end gathering either since the quilt need to follow you.

I tighten my main suspension with a simple overhand knot making a 6" long loop at the head end.

On clothing to bed. You jut have to experiment. Keep a large stuffsack handy so you can test different items thru the night.

On the T-bird over cover. Always vent at the top by your head. Like this.
Usually a 6-8" vent is all that's required to keep the frost away.

Just to show you how well you are doing assembling your winter hammock kit.

    Flashback 2010
This was my setup for my first night of winter hanging with my first UQ.

The picture was taken at 7am after bailing at 1:30am because I was freezing. See what hapened to the shockcord at 0F.
The quilt was tight against me at 9pm when I went to bed.

Wow! Thanks a lot out n back! I went back outside and checked it seemed ok but I did tighten the main suspension up some. I like the idea of taking a stuff sack with clothes out with me to see what works. Getting a lot colder tonight if I got time I'm gonna try stacking if not then tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

Tarp looks pretty loose too. How big is that tarp? It looks pretty small.

It's the standard HH tarp that comes with their cheaper models.
The hammock pictured was bought in 2006 it's a expedition with the HHSS and top cover.
