I love this hood! It sure makes a big dif when trying to make a TQ as warm as a hooded mummy bag!
Reading this review helped me realize I had been using it wrong(but still worked great) and to come up with a little mod, courtesy of my wife's brain.
Turns out I have mostly been using it inside out, apparently. I thought the omni tape was designed for closing it around my neck, but I guess it is actually for attaching it to the vest kit and quilt head holes. But I had also thought it could use a tiny snap, because there was a tendency to pull the omni tape loose when I would try to tighten the cinch/lock cords. It still worked, but seemed a bit flimsy.
After reading this review, I realized what a dufus I was and that it was apparently meant to be turned the other way out- with the Omni tape not in contact with my skin- and the cords used to tie it together. So
But in the review, Ray expressed some frustration with the closure system, saying that it could be used either way, and that he would just tie the strings like a shoe lace under his chin, but that it tended to come loose during the night.
But I was struggling with tying it in a fast enough fashion, tight enough and still with enough string to get it under my chin, when my wife suggested I use just one cord lock for both cords. So I did, I removed one and ran that cord through the other cord lock. That seems to be working pretty slick and quick! If I change my mind I can always put the other cord lock back on.
I picked one up on your sale that just passed, liking it a lot, will be great to sleep in this winter...
Great article. Hopefully, Raymond will check hammocks out. The hood doesn't turn too much since the sleeper in a hammock doesn't turn as much as a ground dweller.
Great job to all Jacks.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
Whiskey, bourbon, scotch...

ha, that always does the trick.
(although if you want to get technical, drinking liquor when your very cold is a bad hing to do. When you get real cold, the blood vessels in your extremities constrict, ie. hands/feet, slowing the blood flow. What this does is keep your core warmer by not letting so much blood get chilled before getting back to the heart. It your body's defense, dropping fingers to keep you alive. Drinking liquor thins the blood, therefore increasing circulation to those extremities. Now warmer blood is rushing in making you feeling warmer, when your actually cooling down your insides which if your far from people and il-equipped/knowledged, can be a dangerous thing.)
Love my JRB Hood!
