Tin cloth/Oil cloth for canvas sock?

Has anyone ever experimented with treating a canvas sock with a Boiled Linseed Oil/beeswax/turpentine mixture to weather proof it? It's a common thing to do for canvas rucksacks, tarps and such. Filson is famous for their tin cloth pants and jackets. I was curious if anyone has ever done anything with it in regards to hammocking.

I have done some canvas bags that i have with bees wax and turps but a canvas sock you'll want to have breathe and the wax etc will reduce that and increase the weight.
