    connecticut campground

I am going camping to a state campground in a couple of weeks- do the authorities usually hassle hammockers?

From what I understand they DO NOT permit WIRE or ROPE tied around trees for any purpose. They did not mention webbing...loop hole?? Get out the CT.Gov web site and/or call them. Which camp ground you looking at?

Just made a call to a DEP official that runs three state parks in my area. NO GO for hammocks suspendid from trees. While he agreed that webbing is safer for trees the issue becomes the interpritation from other campers that see something tied around the tree..."if he can do it so can I". He was very polite and thanked me and wish that more people would take the time to call with questions like these. Sorry, nothing can be tied to the trees...the end.

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission...that is, if you get caught!

I camped with the family in a CT state park. Was in a drought, which ended about an hour after we got the tent set up with an all day and night downpour. We put a tarp over part of the tent and vestibule and had one line to a tree. The campground management didn't come around but a ranger did, stopped his truck and politely but firmly told us to remove the line from the tree. I don't know how he even saw it in all the rain. It's a shame they have a blanket policy on tieing off to trees but when you see what some folks do to trees, you understand why they do.

Here in NC, they don't want you to hang a hammock with rope, but I haven't had a problem with using a strap. In fact, I usually end up with all the rangers stopping by to see what a camping hammock setup looks like.
