I just got a 0* F UQ, but haven't had time to play with it yet. After reading several posts, it seem that most people go with a 0* or 20* for 3 season, depending on how cold it gets, as you can always vent if you get too hot, but it's harder to get warm if you're too cold.

I have collected several UQs in the last year. I like each of them and they are serving their purpose even if I have to layer them. But, If I had to do it again, I would have done a bit more research and purchased a full 0 deg F UQ. My temperatures push the limits of a 20 deg UQ. You can always save up for a AHE jarbridge if you must have two for different times of the year. I have been using mine in conjunction with a JRB Greylock 3. Been in the teens with this setup and think I could push it a bit more. Although, it would be nice to only have to work with one 0 deg UQ during the winter months. You can always vent the 0 deg UQ in the warmer months. My thoughts. Cheers and enjoy your project.

Reading other threads and reviewing comments on some of the cottage vendors websites, it appears that a 40 deg F UQ is used the most during summer months. So if you are making two or more quilts, maybe a -10 to 0 deg F quilt for winter and a 40 deg F quilt for spring to fall?

If buying two underquilts, consider using them together in the winter to reach below 0 degrees Fahrenheit.

If -4 is your target, prepare for -10. At temperatures that low, I would need a 0 degree quilt plus a summer quilt added to it, and make sure that the 0 degree quilt is full length for your height, not shorter to save weight in your pack.
