HEY, so far 16 have signed on to the spread sheet, so based on previous years there should be around 30 there so far. WOO HOO!
An FYI / reminder from the organizers:
Firewood has been ordered, as has the port a potty.
Our invasion is expected by the park,,,, although I will admit they do think us a bit insane. OK, a LOT insane.
The Log house will be warned of our attack no later than the week before (prolly on Thursday) So if you are wanting to attend, at least give me a hint, even by PM, a few years ago 25+ of us showed up unannounced, (so the appetite of nearly 50 people) & the 2 people working were a bit overwhelmed*. They handled it well, considering, but they were a bit frazzled by the end.
The Pot luck "Dinner" starts around 1:00 PM (1300 to me) & goes till the food is gone. So around 1305 or so. Seriously, there is plenty of food, so bring your plate &/or bowl & fork / spoon & dig in. After most have gotten a good start (usually around bowl 3 of the chili) & have swapped a few hiking stories, we start the raffle. The youngest member traditionally draws the tickets from a hat & other traditions govern the selection of items.
Other activities include: impromptu tours of assorted hammock sets#. Hiking some of the MANY & BEAUTIFUL trails in the areas, eating (that gets done a LOT) swapping tales (& lies LOL), Trading / swapping gear, Helping / being helped with new gear, Helping new hangers.
IF you want to go, but fear the cold & weather, this is the Perfect chance to test your gear & skills, with a LOT of experienced campers to help you, in a "safe" environment.
If you have ANY Questions, ask here or via PM. If you PM me a question, you may have to remind me that I need to answer, I sometimes forget.
TTFN!

Anyone going to this from the charlotte area or passing thru and could pick me up. Gonna try to convince the boss to let me go.
Just a reminder to those with questions: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE; ASK THEM! Don't be shy!!
Some that have been asked already via PM:
Do I need snowshoes if I'm not hiking?
Probably not, although even in camp in 2013 they were decidedly handy. Especially if you went ANYWHERE there wasn't a path.
Is there a set schedule for activities?
No, and Yes,,,,, Maybe! The potluck "dinner" starts sometime after noon(ish), kind of. The Raffle starts sometime after & during the potluck.
Are there any planned hikes?
Yes: Firewalker & I & possibly Wlb007, are heading (for Rob & My 4th attempt) to the summit of Mt Rogers on Thursday AM for an overnight. I have heard there is a group starting at VA 603 for a night at Old Orchard shelter, then a night at the Wise then to the group campground.
What should I bring?
See post #18 for hints & tips. A few quick tips: SPARE BOOTS! Extra food, plus more food! At least 3 times the fuel you use per day in 3 season, plus! Extra socks (I bring 2 par per day). Dry clothing for the ride / drive home!
I hope to see you there. As a help to those planning: If you can, please sign the Google Spread sheet on page #1.
Thanks all!

man this would be a great time to get out with my new BMBH, but I still don't have a UQ that I can use in winter. oh well maybe next time.
It's not the fall im scared of, it's the sudden stop at the end!!!
Only hang as high as your willing to fall- H.F. member
Do you have CCF pads? If so, bring em, & be warm.
If you have a spare or two, there are plans somewhere here on HF to make wings for the pads, while not critical, will reduce you getting cold arms n shoulders.
I would hate to see someone miss due to a little thing like an underquilt, & pads do fine if used properly.

I have another person wanting to ride with me as well, but I offered you first & my little truck can only handle one passenger.
Lets keep looking to see who's going from this area . We'll try to make it work for everyone if possible.
I too will something make and joy in it's making
