I do want to hang with you all, but need a ride. I can leave from either Winston Salem or Statesville. Will be glad to pay for expenses.

Yep, unfortunately I ran into a snag at work.
Another employee already has plans to be away & there is no one extra to cover.
So I'm afraid I'll have to sit this one out. I think this will be the 3rd one I've missed since this annual Mt Rogers Winter Hang was started. But I'll be hoping a great weekend for the rest of you.
Might not be bad if the temps come up a bit from what they are right now

I was recently reminded of a great short story regarding cold weather & being out in it: "To build a fire" by Jack London.
Not quite what we will encounter in VA, but a good cold weather read. Do not let you family read this story before your trip or they will lock you in the closet till it's over, or maybe even summer.
    It's on line at: http://www.jacklondons.net/buildafire.html

70 below zero? Made me shiver it did!

Booooooo! You will be missed, but I hope you'll get to make it back up for the Fall Festival.

I don't get to see you often....I was hoping for some time around the fire with you , but I understand you have to do what you have to do. Take care my friend. Maybe you can "save the date" for Spring MAHHA?

    Reflectix available

Today I went to buy a cheap tarp for the shelter and some reflectix to make a 5 gal. cozy for my water supply. Well, the smaller sizes of reflectix were sold out, so I got a 4' x 25' roll. I'll bring what I don't use with me, so if anyone needs a pad or a cozy, it will be there. $5 for a piece 30" x 4' will more than cover my costs. Will ship FREE (to Grayson Highlands State Park on 1/17/2014 only). Willing to haggle, but I really like multiples of $5. Alternatively, will trade 2 pieces for one raffle ticket (before the raffle.)

I love that story. Read a lot of jack london when I was young. I tell my scouts when they thing they have enough wood, tinder, kindling... go get 3x more. I am not thinking you will be facing wolves up there.

Hopefully any precipitation you have will be snow but if you would like to have the big blue tarp (& ropes) we'll see if anyone going from this area will take it along.
