+100 that! I think a whole bunch of HHSS failures have come from not using the space blanket, though a few have come even with it.

Get the 2 oz job, that does everything you need. You don't need anything heavy on top of the HH pad, might cause it to sag. If you have time to get the AMK Heet Sheet, they are quieter and might last longer:

But the cheap one from WM will get the job done.

Hi Billy Bob, where can I get the materials to make torso/kidney pads and what size should I make? I have the HH UL Backpacker with Supershelter.

Sorry to say BillyBob isn't on HF any longer. You can send him a PM and he will most likely respond.
Also, please share on HF if you find the torso/kidney pad dimensions. I've used/worn a vest with some success.

    Torso 32x25

    Kidney 19x16

Both counting small (1/4"?) hemmed area surrounding pads.

Thickness of each ~ 1/4", maybe a tad more? Compared to a rated 5/8" for the original pad. But, the surface is flat. While the original pad surface is egg carton shaped, whatever that is called.

I found the above history. here 'tis

Good info - thanks. I have some old Gossamer Gear 1/4" pads that should work well for this.

And here are some pictures of the HH Kidney and Torso pads to go along with the dimensions. I think I'll experiment with these this fall/winter.

I used the Super Shelter several times the year I bought it, was always cold (Ontario winter). nothing fit the way it should have. Went to Jacks R Better UQ/TP and will never go back. The warmth of down (good nights sleep), the small volume when compressed, well worth the extra expense.
