JRB quilts

The pad option is something I hope I'll like, because it'll save me dishing out 300 bucks for the quilt. I already have more than one pad (you know... the quest to get comfortable on the ground). I probably need to try the pad thing before I go buying anything... I was just drawn to the Jacks' "End of Season Sale!" banner like a moth to a light.

I flop even at home in my bed (which is very comfortable). I think it's because I'm a very light sleeper, so small sounds wake me up. I usually wear earplugs at home, but so far I've been afraid to do that while backpacking for fear that I'll sleep through a bear rummaging in my camp or something like that.

I wasn't planning on actually buying a sleeping bag for the purpose since I have three already. Yeesh guys... I'm not made of money here! I owe Uncle Sam a buttload of money on all these med school loans!

before you buy an underquilt be sure to check out Speers snugfit.

I checked out the snugfit, but it was more expensive (by a good margin) and heavier than the jacks' quilts. Cost is a fairly big concern, as long as we're comparing quality products all around.

not sure which one you are comparing it to but the Snugfit and the Mt Washington both weigh 28 ounces, the Snugfit is larger (coverage area), snugfit 900 fill, Mt Washington 800 fill, temp rating is in favor of the Mt Washington but Ed is very conservative in his temp rating (ask anyone who has his stuff). Price wise the Mt washington is cheaper due to it being on sale but normally it is the more expensive one.

Yeah, I didn't compare the weight of the snugfit to the four season quilts on the jacks' sites. That wouldn't really be fair.

If you get a heavier 4-season quilt, you can hang it looser for warmer weather, if weight is not a consideration for 3-season camping. Lots of people do that.

i do that a lot with mine. When you do the math it only takes a couple oz'a to go from 2.5 inches of loft to 3.5.
