    About to get tested!!!

Alright Marty...your rep is on the line, my friend!

(Just kidding...your rep is SOLID 'round these parts!)

I'm about to put the test on my investment in downy goodness this upcoming weekend.

Yep...weather is looking grim...which makes it time to put the gear through it's paces.

Friday night forecast is 17F, 19mph gusts, and 1-3 inches of snow. Saturday night is clear, with a low of 10F.

I'm busting out my WL full length UQ with 2oz of overstuff, and the custom TQ with the same overstuff. Relying on the lazy slug tubes to keep everything dry when I'm not in it.

I've got a good tarp...HH hex with doors attached, with custom velcro closures on the doors. I'm not expecting anything to get inside that sucker...and I think that Marty's down will be more than able to handle the temps themselves.

So...looking forward to coming back here and letting Marty know just how good his gear does when the weather gets ugly!

Asking 10F quilts to keep you warm in what might be -8F with wind will be a test.

    Looking forward to your report.

Hoping to negate the wind by completely blocking it off with my tarp (with doors that can seal with velcro). Also planning on hanging low enough to bring the edges of the tarp to the ground to help prevent wind-heat-loss as well.

And...it's a car camping run so I plan on having a bit of extra gear on hand to supplement the quilts if need be.

I was really kidding with the title...I can't get upset at all with Marty if I'm using gear on the edge (or beyond) it's performance ratings.

Really, was just kinda throwing a shout out to him that I figure it'll probably work out well as long as I take proper precautions.

    Got ya.

I use WL winter quilts and a snipe for my main winter kit.
King TQ no overstuffing and a full length 10F UQ 2 oz overstuffed like your's I believe.

I've been to +5F with sustained winds. Man wind changes everything.
That said, I was using an UQP and slept in a heavy down coat and insulated overpants.
The other two guys I was hangin with retreated to their cars. I slept thru it all.
    Marty makes good stuff.

If you can block or camp out of the wind you should do great.
I hope you'll take some picts.

Totally agreed with the wind being a major factor, OutandBack.

Here's the thread I posted when I got my tarp back from 2QZQ after they added the doors and did the custom velcro job for me.

Take a look at the pics...that's what I'm hoping to use to keep me outta the wind. Especially if I pitch it low enough to the ground to keep any drafts from coming under as I plan.

I have seen very successful snow walls/ dig outs, that can basically completely seal the bottom of a tarp. Significant difference. A lifeline snow shovel is about ten bones .
