What size foot pad for 3/4 under quilts?

What type foot pad and size are you using with your 3/4 underquilt?

12"x15" tapered to conform to your TQ foot box.

I generally just use my down jacket though. The weight of my feet and legs doesn't seem to compress it to the point I get cold spots, and I have a warm jacket, in case I have to get up and venture forth in the cold of the night(who am I fooling, I know I'm going to need that jacket)

If I do need a bit more insulation under my feet or any pressure point cold spots, I'll use a small sit pad of Reflectix of about the same size. There's also a small piece of CCF pad with the suspension of my pack. I've never had to use it, but it's there.

It was hard to let go of my CCF pad(s), but the Reflectix is lighter, packs smaller, and I depend on my down insulation. It's way warmer and much less fuss.

I carry a piece of ccf to sit on so that is what goes under my feet/legs. Roughly 15x20" just a scrap left from cutting up a ccf pad for the dogs bed.

I ended up with a pair of 20"x30" pads, but they're only 1/8" thick I think. I roll them both up and shove them into the footbox if I need the warmth there. If by chance my UQ lets me down I can put them in a "T" shape under my back and shoulders to boost the temp rating then just add more socks or maybe some booties. Put them together and they make a nice sit pad. It's overkill maybe but they're very, very light so I'm OK with the pair.

IMO, they need to be no larger than to keep your feet warm by preventing contact and convective losses through the hammock bottom that go right to the bones in your feet.

That small (?) may not be large enough for a sit pad, but I don't find it necessary to insulate the area under my calves, if that is what you are thinking. The foot box of the TQ handles that insulaton chore, even compressed.

I would caution not to go too narrow. If your cut is not wide enough you may find that your feet roll off especially if you are using in conjunction with an overstuffed TQ.

For moderate temps I use a therma-rest lite seat, if using closed cell foam pad I like more width near my calf area than the foot end, keystone shaped 15" at the narrow and 22" the wider end. Overall make it around 20" long. This will allow you to move your legs into bent positions and still have coverage around the sides of the upper calf area and have some overlap with your UQ. I sometimes feel a little cold spot where the UQ closes in around my legs, some overlap here is nice.

I don't see how people do it in a gathered-end. I toss 'n turn in a gathered end hammock, so I need the pad almost too big to be worthwhile - so I kept my full-length UQ --- no fuss.

In a Bridge, though, I can sleep on my back pretty much all night so a smaller pad as many describe above worksl
