I think I'm done with this project. I'm happy with this arrangement. I do plan to spray paint the bent PVC tubing black, but other than that, I'm ready to go. Thanks to everyone for all the ideas.

I have searched the DIY forum but I haven't been able to find a good description of how to build one of these pulk sleds.
Can someone point me to a thread for building the basic sled out?

Depends on what you want. Many of the Pulk Sled topics got moved to the Members Only DIY part of the Forum. I know mine did.
Google DIY Pulk sled and you will get some options from simple kids sleds to more elaborate like my own. But there all simple in design technically.

Looks like a nice mod to your mod.
Also, if you get legs like those of an EZ-up canopy, you can have them extend for you.
If you have the bones for one of those canopies, you can just cut to your desired length. It already has the feet to keep from sinking into the snow or soft sand.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
Hey, there you go. That looks great, and no risk of the pole sleeves dragging you up, plus eliminated half of the poles. Nice.
That looks like a winner to me. Now I have to look at making one for Klondike this winter.

Looks good! How do you carry that front pole? ;-))
YMMV
