I use prusik knots on all tie outs, including the RL. I like this method because I use almost NO hardware, and I never have to tie a single knot. Did I mention setup is Fast? I can hang/stake my SuperFly in under 1min.

FWIW, I use the LineLoc3's as guyline tighteners, and find my center pole mod eliminating the need for any tensioners. The pole acts like a big spring for all four corners. It also keeps its spring during subfreezing temps unlike some other shockcording methods I've tried. Sure, there is a pole and pole pockets to consider (6ozs.), but the advantage of increased space under the tarp, easier snow load shed, and a place to hang wet socks make it a plus for me. And if pulking, weight becomes less an issue.

    Having said that ...

As mentioned I try to set up my tarps with Zing-it and line locs with a small loop of shock cord for a tensioner, but my other go-to is the taut-line hitch. It works with a wider variety of line diameters - even cheap 100 lb. spectra fishing line. I agree with Canoefor2 that knowing your knots is invaluable. Also, I'm impressed with 2Q's rationale for tarp pole mods, though I haven't tried them yet.

I never found a need for guy line tensioners but I didn't know why. Now I realize it is probably because of my pole mod. Makes sense...
