Nylon question?

is pure finish ripstop nylon wind resistant? If not, what can I do to help it shed wind for use in a sythentic underquilt shell?

I can tell you from personal experience that if you are using pure finish as an outer shell you're making a horrible mistake.

A calendered ripstop with DWR would be a much better choice. Use the pure finish for a hammock.

I used Argon as an inner shell and 1.1 Marpat as an outer, thinking the Argon was all I needed to block the wind. I did not think far enough ahead to realize that although it would block the wind from hitting me directly, the wind would suck every bit of warmth out of the insulation.

The quilts work OK if blocked from the wind, but I won't trust them in anything under 40* now. They will work OK as a TQ, but that's b/c my UQs are wider than most folks and they come up the sides a good distance, effectively blocking any air movement the tarp does not.
