    Hammock length affecting strap height?

My main hammock is a WBBB with a 101 inch ridgline. (I think. It is whatever is standard). I was hanging last week with my Yukon hammock. It only has a 93" ridgeline. It seems like I had to hang the tree straps higher than I do with my WBBB to get the right hang angle. I used Dejoha's calculator and it says that hammock length doesn't affect how high you put your tree straps. Thoughts?

I don't know in what context dehoja made that statement but I find it's true that the changing RL will affect the height of the straps if you are hanging the two hammocks' ridgelines at the same height. All one has to do is draw a picture of a 100" RL with suspension at 30 degrees and then shorten the RL to 90" (5" per end) while maintaining the 30 dregee angle. The suspensions will be now be higher on the trees.

Exactly right. Decreasing the length of the ridge line increases the distance to the trees that the suspension has to take up, so to keep the ridge line at the same height the straps have to be longer and therefore higher.

Good idea with the visual bubba.

Thanks guys, that is what I thought. I have a set of trees that I hang from in my backyard that are a bit too far apart. With my WBBB, I hang as high as I can reach. With my shorter hammock, I had to use a stick to shove the straps up higher. To be clear, I don't know whether or not Derek (Dejoha) wrote or said that hammock length didn't matter to strap height. I just based that on his hammock hang calculator. When you change the length in the calculator, the strap height never changes. I don't know if it is an oversight in the app, but it sure seems like it would make a difference. Anyway, thanks for your insight.
