    Hennessy zip versus original entry

Hi guys, im considering a hennessy hammock, and im wondering which is better, the zip or the bottom entry. The possible problem i see with the zipper is it getting stuck, and im wondering if bugs might get into the velcro closure kind. but i do think the bottom entry is cool.

I thought the bottom entry looked less appealing. I got a zipper model and like it. No zipper problems for me in my limited experience.

The bottom entry is great to keep the mosquitos out as you go to bed. If you find later that you want a zipper there is a vendor on here that will modify your hammock with zip

I have the HH BPUL with the bottom entry. The bottom entry is quick and easy when not using a pad, but there is knack to using it with a pad. I belive the bottom entry really shines in areas that are heavy with skeeters, black flies etc. Because it is so quick to get in and out of. I have never had anything get in through the velcro.

Having a zip is nice for reaching outside to grab a book, use a stove etc. Or if you have questions double zip ( as in my DD Frontline) there are no bugs and you want to go'topless'.

The best of both world's would be a bottom entry with a double zip . As a previous poster mentioned 2QZQ has built a business around adding zips to the womb entry style Hennessy.

I have bottom entry explorer I can add a zipper to make it easier to use with my winter underquilt. Have the best of both worlds.
The velcro does keep the bugs out.
And yes original entry very cool.

    +1 for Bodhran4me.

I love my bottom entry and I may get the 2qzq mod this spring just for the option. Since I'm down here in the South and do most of my camping down here I can't imagine not using the mosquito netting. It makes the tent a little warmer but much less so than a tent.
    Thanks,

Both have their benefits. The bottom is the best at keeping the skeeters out while the zip is great for reaching out of the hammock when needed. I have noticed that I get worries about the zipper breaking if it isn't all the way open when I get in.

I started with a bottom entry model and replaced it with a zipper model when I upgraded to a larger (Explorer) unit. Both have their good points, but I prefer the zipper since it involves less rearranging of pad, sleeping bag when you're getting in and out. I've also added a Supershelter. I didn't have one of those when I was using my bottom entry model so I have no experience with that, but I like that I don't have to disturb the pad and reflective blanket once they are set up with the zipper model.

I have the ULBP and find that the bottom entry works well and is a simple design, well thought out especially considering the mosquitoes in this area. It also works just fine with an underquilt or the HHSS (which I have both). I'd suggest getting the bottom entry, then if you want to be able to unzip, follow the suggestions here and get the 2QZQ mod to give you the best of both worlds.

I had a bottom entry, and loved it, aside from the fact that the velcro got stuck in my hair all the time (my hair is almost to my waist). I sold it to a friend and got a zipper model and I love it too.
