Which WBBB? Using a UQ with a pad??

I am in the process of upgrading my gear. I will be getting a WBBB, along with an AHE New River UQ. Trying to decide between the single and double-layer hammock. Most of my camping is car camping with the Boy Scouts, so weight is not a big factor in my decision. For cold-weather, has anybody ever slid a pad between the layers of the hammock and also used the UQ? Any issues or problems? Thanks.

If you want to use a pad a double is handy. I used a pad for the first time Saturday night in mine just to see how it worked. It was comfortable, maybe not as good as UQ but good.

Yes. A lot of folks supplement the UQ with a pad in cold weather.
I have a WBBB double layer. I have used the ccf pad in between the layers, but I find putting fabric around the pad eliminates sweating. A complete write up on the WBBB is on my blog.

Here is a pic of Poncho liner wrapping ccf. The black and blue is my sleeping bag inside the hammock and the pad is slipped between the hammock layers.

Mosquitoes have a harder time biting thru two layers rather than one... but only the females.
Give a man enough ripstop and he'll hang himself.

I recently experimented with putting a self-inflating pad between the two layers of my WBBB and found it to be very comfortable. I was also very pleased with how warm it kept me (no underquilt). The temps got down into the mid to high 30s and I was able to stay comfortable with just the pad underneath and my 20-degree down bag used as a top quilt.

I did experience the pad sliding around a couple of times. May try putting some kind of rubber dots or something on the bottom of the pad and see if that helps hold it in place.

This question comes up from time to time on the Warbonnet forum; you might look over those posts.

GossamerGear has a wider foam pad (~39" x 59" x .25") especially for hammocks; its currently on sale (for a little over $40., with shipping).

In general, pads stay put better if held between two layers. Those who get the single layer WBBB tend to be picky about weight.
