Hi all..
Got out on the Long Trail in Vermont over the weekend...did about 20 miles. Had the Blackbird and McCat tarp setup, along with my hiking partner (the muddy dog).
Overnite temps in the upper 30's. Had a 1/4 pad underneath, 25 degree bag. Was plenty warm enough. Was wearing softshell hiking pants and a Patagonia r1 with a hood.
Was supposeed to be somewhat 'iffy' regarding rain, but cleared throughout the nite...folded the tarp back in order to see the moon.
Nice nite, I like this setup much nicer than a tent! In fact, got to my prearrranged pickup spot about an hour early, so hung the hammock and relaxed while waiting for my wife. Setup/takedown time on these things are great!
Dog loves hanging in the hammock, but I needed to keep the net open, because he wants to jump out when he hears things in the nite. Too cool for bugs right now, but this won't last much longer....maybe I need to get Brandon to make him his own Blackbird, without a net?
