    Greetings from DUCK Country...

    ...Oregon Ducks, that is!

    Hi All! I'm Joel from Eugene. Moved up here from Los Angeles and I don't plan on returning. It's so amazingly beautiful here - I'm surrounded by trees! Which got me thinking about hammocks, which got me googling hammocks, which brought me to you kind folks. Been reading page after page the last few days, and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all...well, most of you.

    I'm new, awaiting the arrival of a Grand Trunk UltraLight. I know the GTUL isn't the sturdiest, but it was inexpensive and I had some credit on Amazon burning a hole... I just finished my last final and I plan to spend the next couple weeks figuring a few things out. The GTUL should be here Friday (gotta love Prime), so I may need your help this weekend as I learn to "hang my own..."

    First hang!

    Thanks all! I feel so welcome!

    If I can figure out how to post pics, I hope to show the first hang of my new GTUL. (So, I figured out how, but something went awry when I attempted to upload the pics to the attachment manager. Got a note in to the admin, and will edit when we get it sorted...stay tuned!)

    It took awhile to find a suitable pair of trees, but I managed to find a pair that offered moderate protection from the light rain that decided to fall just as I began wrappin' trees. Before I headed out, I swapped out the craptacular heavy-rope-and-S-hook suspension with some whoopies made by an outfit in PDX called OneLife. I hung between some Hammock Bliss tree straps.

    Upon reflection, the Hammock Bliss straps, being made from nylon, were a bit too stretchy for my taste. Derek Hansen recommends Atlas Straps from ENO. What do y'all think?
