Have not had a metal ones break under nasty conditions but I've only had them in use for heavy winds. I don't think rain or snow would do anything different. Didn't someone have some plastic ones give them problems?

So I've given in and I'm going to order 6 of these(2 for the ridgeline 4 for the tie-outs). Any reason not to get the carabiner ones over the solid ones?
Oh btw I'm ordering them from BatteryJunction because they have them listed for an insanely cheap price if anyone else is interested.
I think the solid ones are lighter. maybe check on that.
I've had my tarp up for the past couple days with the small figure 9's on the ridgeline. Quick & easy to set up and adjust. We had wicked good thunderstorms roll through today with heavy rains and strong winds from multiple directions. The tarp is big - a Speer Winter Tarp, and I used Speer's orange guy lines. The figure 9's held perfectly. I'll stick with tautline hitches for the rest of the guy lines, but I'm sold on the 9's for the ridgeline.
i have had the fig 9s slip on me. It has slipped using speer to tangle line and the blue rope that come with the 9s. I also have ones that are distorted and bent a little. They still work but they are not flat any more. Anyhow I still use them. sometimes I use a backup knot. They are on all my tarps.
