Good questions, David. There is plenty of info on this board about vapor barriers and the pros and cons. Your emergency blanket will keep you warm, but at the cost of condensation. That is where the debate lies, if its worth it. 2qzq does sell an affordable undercover, and your large trashbags could work, and once again remember that they are not breathable, thus creating a vapor barrier. I'm sure someone can posta few links of stimulating dialogue on this. Myself, i use reflectix in the colder months, and I have favorable reviews of it.. same concept. HYOH.
Yes and yes. Trash bag wants to be drawn up but not crushing the bottom insulation.

I use the emergency blanket for anything below freezing and have not yet had a problem with condensation. I place it between the hammock and UQ. Helps reflect heat back and prevent some loss due to air movement.
Haven't tried a trash bag, but I have used a DIY sock with great success in cold weather
