How far away? Unless you are going to urban camp you'll need to go to Stone Mountain or up near Alatoona or Lake Lanier. Further north you have Vogel State park and plenty of good camping. Black Rock state park in the NE and Cloudland canyon to the NW.

    Enjoy.
    Thanks,

You also have Pine Mountain and FDR State Park about 50 or so mile south of Atlanta. Its got a pretty nice trail with lots of camping spots.

Drive thru Helen Ga. as you come out of town take your first left across the Chattahoochee River then take an immediate right. At the end of the road is a campground but I'm sure with some research there are probably plenty of other places to just ease off into the wilderness and hang. Been there and seen the area but never hung, but I would love to.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

Indian Springs and High Falls State Parks south near Jackson are decent.
Amicalola State Park near Helen s nice

For "true" camping, Best is Chatooga River at Burrells Ford to the north

I can't think of any non-stealth locations ITP. All of the logical places have been listed. Personally, I would google Chattahochee National Forest and pick one, any one. And start working through all of the sites.
