$20 3 oz winter sock solution

I've been doing a lot of searching around for alternative materials for hammock making and I stumbled across a re purposing of an existing product as an ultralight hammock sock.

Enter the extra-large plant frost cover bag:

    http://amzn.com/B0031D32DK

These are made of spun-bonded polypropylene non-woven fabric. That material is breathable, hydrophobic, very light, and super cheap. This product I found is a $8 bag 6' deep and 8' wide. It comes with a drawcord. The amazon link says 1.6 oz for the whole bag but I find that hard to believe.

One could buy two, pop a hole through the end of each bag for the hammock suspension to pass through, and slide one bag onto each end of the hammock. These things are advertised to raise ambient temperature by up to 8 degrees for plants. If that's true, imagine what a body would do.

Buy 2, cut the ends off, sew them both together at the cut off end, use the draw corded end at the ends of the hammock.

    Hmmmmmm
I've gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, make sure I stay here.

When I see lovers' names carved into a tree, I don't think it's cute. I think it's strange how so many people take knives on a date.

    I like that.

One idea I am thinking about is what would happen by layering 3 or 4 of these together. 2 or 3 air gaps could make a respectable R value.

Interesting - who's going to be the 1st to try this? Watch for condensation because the add says "◾This floating row cover traps heat and moisture to produce bigger, better and earlier crop yields"

For reference, this is a similar material to the $1 reusable bags that they have at some grocery stores. Some dust masks are made out of similar stuff. That might help you judge what the properties of this material are.

I like! If I get one (& it do seem likely) I'll just put it over the foot end of my hammock as my fee get the coldest AND this will allow (just in case) any moisture I put out to not condense over my head.
Even if I do as suggested; get 2 & sew them together, for the price I could cut a breathing hole above my head without being freaked out by the cost of "Damaging" the sock.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.
