    Need some hammock buying advice!

Hey, I'm new here and just ordered myself a WBBB xlc 1.1 double layer with the superfly. Pretty excited about that, but I want to order a hammock and fly for my girlfriend so we can hang together. As a novice I was hoping I could get some good advice here as to what my options are. I would like to spend maybe $150 tops as she may use it less than me and isn't quite as picky. Also she is only 5'2 105lbs.

I was looking at the HH scout zip, considering her size, and I was wondering what yall think of that and pros/cons. The tarp that comes with it looks a little skimpy but if its not sufficient I can always upgrade when its necessary and still spend less than I would for a bigger system.

We live in Florida now but will hopefully be moving out west in the next couple months, probably northern california. I definitely want it to be complete with bugnet and tarp, and I want her to be comfortable in a quality hammock. Beyond that, I'm open to suggestions.

    Ideas?

Onions vary greatly. Mine is, she would be satisfied with the scout. As far as the fly,it covers my grandson very well. If you find the right trees you both can hang under your tarp.

    Just an idea:

    Warbonnet Double Layer 1.1 Traveler - $75
    Warbonnet Edge Tarp - $85
    - $10 combo rebate
    = $150

Then DIY a bug net on the cheap.

The advantage of this set-up would be, that it would complement to your own set-up (for home or winter) should she decide she doesn't like hammock camping And she will not be disappointed comfort-wise. I still have to find a hammock more comfy than my WB.

Theres a HH Expedition in the Sale forum. https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=85235

Should be more comfortable than the scout, its in your budget, and a good deal.

Off the cuff advise: Budget for several more! You'll perhaps do like many here and try a few before zeroing in on the essential 3-5... like potato chips, betcha can't sleep just one!

I would go for the HH EXP as suggested above. Has everything ready to go and in your price range. I also think that she would appreciate the extra space rather than being in a smaller cub.

another option...check out Simply Light Design website or check them out on ebay. I think Jared there has a complete DL (double layer) setup there with suspension (straps and whoopies) with an asym tarp for your price range. Looks to be a complete, ready to hang system.

I just purchased the SLD hammock only and have been pleased.

My wife is the same size and uses the HH exped and seems to do fine. I have a Hex tarp she uses and does not have any problem at all. At first she thought that it was too short but as she has learned she can sleep on her side as well. However, I do not think that the hammock is the first item she would grab so if your wife is at that phase I would recommend the same. Also, if you have a child or planning on expanding in that department your addition will work grat for them as well.

    Happy hanging
